GP Polyester Resin (General Purpose) is a versatile, unsaturated polyester resin commonly used in fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) applications. It is ideal for hand lay-up and spray-up processes and is widely used for boat building, tank lining, automobile parts, roofing sheets, and various composite molding applications.
This resin offers excellent bonding with fiberglass (chopped strand mat, woven roving), and cures to form a hard, durable, and water-resistant composite when mixed with MEKP (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide) catalyst.
Key Benefits
-
Multi-purpose resin suitable for a wide range of industrial and construction uses
-
Good mechanical strength and surface hardness
-
Cures quickly with MEKP catalyst
-
Bonds effectively with glass fiber reinforcements
-
Cost-effective and easy to handle for FRP applications
Suitable For
-
Fiberglass fabrication and repairs
-
Automotive parts and panels
-
Roofing and translucent sheet manufacturing
-
Boat hulls and decks
-
Molds for concrete, plastics, or other composites
Usage Instructions
-
Mix thoroughly with MEKP catalyst in the recommended ratio (typically 1–2% by weight)
-
Use gloves and safety gear; mix in a well-ventilated area
-
Apply over fiberglass mat or mold using brush, roller, or spray gun
-
Allow to cure at room temperature for 1–4 hours depending on ambient temperature and catalyst dosage
-
Avoid contact with moisture during curing
Note: Do not store mixed resin. Prepare only the amount needed for immediate use.

FAQs
Q: Can GP resin be used for casting?
No. GP resin is designed for laminating and not recommended for clear casting. Use clear cast resin for casting applications.
Q: What reinforcement materials can be used with GP resin?
Chopped strand mat (CSM), woven roving, and glass cloth are commonly used reinforcements.
Q: Is this resin waterproof?
Yes, once cured properly, GP resin offers good water resistance, making it suitable for marine applications.
